Volubilis (WALILI) is partly excavated berber city in Morocco , located near the city of meknas




.It deems old-fashioned capital of the kingdom of mauritania ,dated back to the third century BC .Afterward , it urgently becomes the capital of IDRESS 1 , and established in a fertile articulture area ,and developted from the 3rd century BC onward as a berber pro- carthaginian settlement before being the capital of Mauritania .




It extended to involve about 42 hectars and surrounded by walls .another factor to consider is that Walili has become well-known by an infinite number of public buildings; for instance, Basilica , Temple ,and Triumph arch . All of these ushered Walili inhabited for 7 years .In the 8 th century , Volubilis became the seat of IDRESS IBN ABDELAH, the founder of dynasty ,and the state of Morocco, but in the 11 th century , walili ( volubilis ) had been abondoned after the the bench of power was relocated to fes , sundry of local population was transferred to the new town of MOULAY IDRESS ZARHOUNE






In the 18 th century , Walili devastated because of the earthquake that drove Morocco rulers confiscated its stones or fragments of buildings to build Mekenas city .On the top of all these again , during and after the period of french rules over Morocco ,about half of site was excavated ,discovering many Mosaics ,some of the more renowed public buildings ,and High status house were rebuilt .



To conclude these information and bring all things to end , today , Volubilis(Walili) is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE , registred for being exceptionally well kept example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the empire .
